
Ottawa rolls over Victoria 5-0 in convincing win
The No. 3-seeded Ottawa Gee-Gees got their title quest of to a dream start, as they dumped the No. 6 Victoria Vikes 5-0 in the second quarterfinal of the 2024 BMO U SPORTS Women’s Soccer Championship at Wickwire Field.
Ottawa took control early, with Nibo Dlamini scoring both of the opening goals in the 35th and 45th minutes, the first on a penalty kick after Victoria was called for a handball in the box. The Vikes struggled to find rhythm, managing only four shots on goal throughout the match.
The second half was no different as Ottawa continued to assert themselves. Allana Oriente added to the scoreline in the 50th minute, assisted by Cassandra Provost. Provost then scored twice herself, first in the 62nd minute and again in the 75th, showcasing her offensive prowess.
Victoria’s goalkeeper Kayley Lidstone faced a barrage from Ottawa, making four saves while Ottawa’s Cassidy Joslin recorded three saves, securing the clean sheet.
With the win, Ottawa will take on No. 2 seed Laval in the first semifinal on Friday, set for 5 p.m. Atlantic. Victoria drops into the consolation bracket, where they will take on Canada West rivals Trinity Western at 11 a.m. Friday.
